Lost in Thought

I created this piece in my college drawing class when we were observing the skeleton under the human skin. At the time I made this, I was listening to some short horror story podcasts and wanted to take a creepy and morbid approach with it. So, instead of fading the skin into the skeleton, I made the edges look like sliced skin. I also kept the eyeball in its skeletal socket to make it more disturbing to the viewer.
In a way, this image could also be a memento mori. Skeletons are generally associated with death, but in this case, the person is still alive. It is a morbid reminder that death for all living things is inevitable. In the end, we’re all bones.
